Description

Sweet, Tangy & Spiced Just  Right

Made with juicy fresh mangoes, this chutney blends sweetness and spice with hints of ginger, garlic, cinnamon, and local Sri Lankan flavours. A perfect companion for rice, roti, curries, or cheese boards.

This chutney balances the natural sweetness of mangoes with a slight tang and gentle heat, creating a rich, thick preserve with a vibrant golden-orange colour. It’s traditionally served as a flavourful accompaniment to rice dishes, curries, snacks, and even sandwiches, adding a burst of tropical flavour and a touch of Sri Lankan heritage to meals.

🧂 Processing

Fresh ripe or semi-ripe mangoes are peeled, pitted, and chopped into small pieces. In a pot, spice with hints of ginger, garlic, cinnamon, and local Sri Lankan flavours are tempered in oil to release their aroma. The mango pieces are then added along with sugar, vinegar, salt, and sometimes tamarind for extra tanginess. The mixture is simmered over low heat, stirring occasionally, until the mango softens and the chutney thickens to a jam-like consistency. Once cooled, it is stored in sterilised jars, ready to be enjoyed as a sweet and spicy accompaniment.

🎨 Colour & Appearance

Mango Chutney has a warm, golden-orange to amber colour that shines with a glossy, syrupy texture. The chutney is thick and chunky, with visible soft pieces of mango suspended in a rich, spiced sauce. Flecks of mustard seeds, red chilli, and spices add specks of colour throughout, giving it a vibrant and appetising look. Its bright and inviting appearance reflects its sweet, tangy, and spicy flavour profile.
